An unforgettable experience in Indianapolis, Indiana

This time last week I was about to address a room full of faces that were, for lack of a better word from this wordsmith, joyful. I had the privilege to speak about the meaning of legacy to the International Convention of the PEO Sisterhood. Iowa happens to be the home of this organization and where it began in 1869 (started by seven young women at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa--a story for another day!), but I didn't know much about this Philanthropic Education Organization until just a few years ago. It has 250,000 members worldwide and has given over $234 million in scholarships, grants and loans to over 90,000 women. An amazing and inspiring legacy from seven pioneering young women age 16 to 20 who simply set out to start a society to honor friendship, loyalty and education.
Anyway, I hope my attendees walked away with even a fraction of the good feelings I got by being there with them.
